One of the worlds most versatile hunting rifles is the Browning BLR Lightweight '81. This rifle is the rifle of choice for elk hunting because of its rack-and-pinion lever-action and detachable four-round box magazine that allows for fast and easy reloading. The rifle comes with an aluminum alloy stock and a 20-inch barrel with rotary bolt locking system. We prefer the curved pistol-grip but you can also get with a straight stock. We also like the take-down version for easy transportation and shipping. Testimonial from Chris Washko
I have had the occasion to hunt with Corwin & Moon Valley Outfitters each year since Fall 2004. I have enjoyed 100% success, including harvesting 383 and 405 5/8 point Bulls in 2006 and 2007. The sheer quantity and quality of Elk you see while hunting with Moon Valley is beyond impressive. The new lodge provides fantastic accommodations to relax, enjoy the great food and share the day’s hunting stories.
Each year I have the opportunity to enjoy new trips throughout the world, however I always look forward most to Elk hunting with Moon Valley Outfitters. Corwin, his family and the excellent guides all combine to make their Elk hunting a truly excellent experience! Continue reading
Testimonial from Richard Hite
My friend, Tom, is 72 years old and wanted to go on a good elk hunt. After checking out guided hunts and talking to Corwin on the phone we decided on Moon Valley Outfitters. At 72 Tom has been on a few hunts in his life and has never had a better hunting experience then we have had here. We both highly recommend Moon Valley Outfitters. Their guides are phenomenal, the facilities are great and it’s around a great time. We both took nice elk with muzzleloaders and saw elk every day. Thanks Moon Valley. Continue reading
Testimonial from Zane Latham
All the guys and gals at Moon Valley Outfitters were outstanding. From the guides, the cook, and the lodging I could not have been anymore satisfied. They don’t make promises they can’t keep and they do what they say they are going to do. What more can you ask for? I have hunted archery twice with them and have left satisfied both times. They have the big bulls in their area and the guides are really great. Keep it up Corwin. Continue reading
Testimonial from David W Dixon
I have hunted with Moon Valley and Corwin for several years now. Not often do you have the chance to become close friends with your outfitter and his family, but that is just what has occurred with Moon Valley. Corwin runs a top notch business in a top notch hunting area. His guides are always ready to go (sometimes more than a flat-lander can handle) and ready to do whatever it takes to ensure that you have a first class experience while in the field. And once you finish your day in the field, then you get to experience some of the best food in New Mexico to get your energy back. After some camaraderie around the fire and rest in the new lodge you are happy to do it all again. I have hunted all over the West and run a ranch for whitetails in Texas. I can say that Corwin and Moon Valley Outfitters could set the standard for what a high quality outfitter should be. Continue reading

Manzano Bear Release
From Paleolithic times to the present, bears have fascinated humans. However, all too often, our interest in bears is misinformed and marred by inaccurate beliefs.
On the one hand, we feel a kinship with bears, due partly to the traits we have in common. Bears stand erect on the soles of their feet, sit on their rumps and have shoulder joints which allow free rotation of limbs. Continue reading

Historically, black bears were hunted by both Native Americans and European settlers. Some Native American tribes, in admiration for the black bear's intelligence, would decorate the heads of bears they killed with trinkets, and place them on blankets. Tobacco smoke would be wafted into the disembodied head's nostrils by the hunter that dealt the killing blow, and would compliment the animal for its courage Continue reading
Mountain Lion Hunting in Arizona and New Mexico
The mountain, lion also known as cougar, puma, mountain cat, catamount or panther, depending on the region is a large, solitary cat and has the greatest range of any large wild terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere. A capable stalk-and-ambush predator, the mountain lion is a formidable adversary and requires traversing some very rough terrain.
